THE POSITION

If you value the integrity of healthcare and the quality assurance of Pennsylvania's healthcare facilities, then this is the job for you. This position evaluates the compliance of health care facilities (which include but are not limited to hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, and abortion clinics) with state and/or federal regulations. Staff evaluate facilities during routine or abbreviated surveys based on license expiration. Additional surveys are conducted to inspect building projects, and investigate unusual incidents and complaints reported to the department.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position conducts inspections of acute and ambulatory care facilities to evaluate the quality of care and services and to determine compliance with state and/or federal regulations. The work may require irregular hours in order to evaluate the facility's policies and practices. Additional types of surveys include complaint and incident investigations, occupancy inspections, and revisits to confirm that the facility has followed their plan of correction to eliminate an identified problem. Inspections are completed over a 4-county area, and at times, travel outside that territory is necessary.

Work Hours and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment

  • Work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday - Friday, with a 30 minute lunch period

  • You will have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time on days that you are not out on survey at a facility. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Bethlehem.

  • This position requires irregular work hours to meet departmental needs.

  • Frequent travel is a requirement of this position.

  • Employee will be required to carry a cell phone.

  • Statewide travel, overnight travel and flexible work hours are required in order to accommodate state and federal mandates.

  • The employee in this position may be assigned to function independently, with a partner, as a member of a team, or as the designated team coordinator during on site surveys.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements - A bachelor's degree in nursing and one year of related professional experience;ORan equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • Necessary Special Requirement: Possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing; or possession of a non-renewable temporary practice permit issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

  • Condition of Employment: Nursing specialty area employees possessing non-renewable temporary practice permits must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one year period as defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
