Sutter Health Registered Nurse, Lactation Consultant in Burlingame, California

Position Overview:

According to organizational policies and procedures, the Lactation Consultant is responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to assist the breastfeeding mother to attain her goals. The Lactation Consultant functions as a member of the FBC at Mills-Peninsula Health Services, and contributes to the multi-disciplinary health care team as a consultant, educator, mentor to nursing staff, healthcare professionals and patients, according to Baby Friendly, USA standards. Demonstrates professional knowledge of the breastfeeding process, antepartum, intrapartum and post partum healthcare and psychosocial issues. Knowledge of premature infants and from birth to toddlers. Individualizes teaching plans to meet patient and family needs and evaluates effectiveness of patient and family education. Demonstrates knowledge of breastfeeding care by actively promoting breastfeeding and assisting mothers to reach their goals.Utilizes specialized skills and abilities regarding; assessment, intervention based on patient history and assessment, initiation and modification of complex situations and related therapies and intervention. Provides information with consideration of mental, emotional, cultural, social and physical factors.


RN license required

IBCLC required

Bachelors Degree preferred

2-5 years experience in an acute care setting as a lactation consultant
