Position Summary

MSU CAPS provides a wide range of mental health services for students on campus, including and not limited to screening/triage appointments, individual and group therapy, psychiatric services, outreach and multicultural engagement, clinical care coordination, intensive integrated clinical services, and hospitalization coordination and support.

The Psychiatric NP will provide and coordinate mental health services to MSU students in order to facilitate their academic progress and retention. The NP will work collaboratively with psychiatrists, psychologists, staff physicians, counselors, social workers and other campus and external partners to best serve the needs of the student population. The position will be responsible for providing direct care including mental health assessments, establishing diagnoses, and determining appropriate treatment plans and coordinating referrals. This position is a 12-month full time position with a competitive salary and benefits package. Typical clinic hours are 8 AM - 6 PM, Monday – Friday and 8 AM – 5 PM during academic breaks.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

This position requires knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work such as a Masters in Nursing; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in direct nursing care in a behavioral health unit; OR a Master's Degree in Nursing; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in direct nursing care in a behavioral health unit; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position also requires possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and specialty certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan, and certification by the American Nurses' Credentialing Center as psychiatric mental health NP.

Desired Qualifications

Preferred candidates will demonstrate skill and experience in assessment and treatment of patients with a wide range of psychiatric presentations including disorders of mood, anxiety, attention, eating, substance use and psychosis; experience working well with a multi-disciplinary team; experience working with college age young adults and diverse populations; knowledge of electronic medical records, peer review and committee work in developing/updating policies.
