6 South is a 22 bed acuity adaptable unit at Butterworth Hospital that is capable of managing both non ICU and ICU status patients admitted with advanced cardiopulmonary care needs.
6 South specializes in patients with advanced heart failure, pre or post heart or lung transplant, Left Ventricular Assist devices, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps, and respiratory failure necessitating Bipap, Hi-Flo Nasal Cannula, or Ventilator support via tracheostomy.
Individuals are drawn to 6 South as it is a unique environment that allows new grad nurses the opportunity to build a strong foundation in time management and develop their critical thinking skills in non ICU assignments, while also providing an introduction into ICU level of care. Specifically the nurses are trained to manage continuous vasoactive infusions, pulmonary artery catheters, radial arterial lines, central venous catheters, ventilators, peritoneal dialysis, tracheostomy care, and utilization of Endotool for continuous Insulin drip therapy.
The culture on 6 South is well know for its teamwork and consists of a healthy mix of Registered Nurse and Nurse Techs with anywhere from 1-25 years of experience.
Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Performs basic skills per hospital/unit guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team.
High School Diploma or equivalent Required
LIFE SUPPORT\Basic Life Support (BLS) All 90 Days Required
