Responsibilities

Coming out of anesthesia is pretty unpredictable. Some patients might be scared, confused, or in pain while others could have their own comedy show on cable. Most PACU nurses probably have many stories for each scenario. Regardless of the outcome, one thing all patients have in common is their need for care. What you’ll do:

• Provide intensive observation and treatment of patients who have undergone anesthesia

• Monitor levels of consciousness to ensure sedation is wearing off properly and safely

• Offer a calming presence as you are most likely the first person the patients see post op

• Answer questions and convey important information to patients and family members or caregive

Qualifications

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license that allows you to practice in our state

Graduate of an accredited nursing program

Experience as a Registered Nurse preferred

Basic Life Support (BLS) required

Specialty certification (ex: CCRN, CNOR, CEN) preferred

Additional certification or licensure may be required for some specialty areas
