Ensures a professional and responsive atmosphere by greeting patients, visitors, staff, and physicians promptly and courteously. Refers to each individual by name when appropriate. Monitors visitors for Infant Security purposes
Performs initial assessment utilizing professional nursing knowledge and skills. Appropriately assess for: Physical and psychosocial-emotional needs. Labor status and progression. Labor, postpartum/postoperative and neonatal pain. Fetal Well being. Neonatal transition to extra uterine life. Breastfeeding ability. Barriers to learning. Educational needs. Discharge need. Age related needs. Issues related to assault or abuse
Analyzes patient related data, such as vital signs, past medical history, prenatal history, physical exam findings, laboratory values and other information, including age-specific criteria, to determine appropriate care.
Provides health education and teaching to patient, family and significant others that is age specific, providing for any barriers to learning. Clearly communicates health, treatment and discharge information, ensuring the patient, family member or significant other understands all discharge and follow-up instructions.
Plans nursing care based on priority of physical and psychosocial-emotional needs
Implements the plan of care including prescribed procedures and treatments
Encourages a “family centered approach” to nursing care (encourages rooming in, includes family members in all aspects of care as requested by the patient)
Evaluates the effectiveness of care delivered to reach the expected outcome
Assures that ALGO testing is completed on all infants
Assures that newborn vaccines are administered as ordered
Administers medications using the “5Rights” and pain scale
Assesses newborn pain using the FLAC score and adheres to policy
Assessed breastfeeding using the LATCH score and communicates any problems to MD and Lactation Dept
Completes newborn and maternal teaching before discharge
Appropriately recognizes and quickly responds to emergency medical situations.
Follows the chain of command when necessary
Delegates tasks appropriately to ACs.
Conveys ideas, concepts, and facts in a logical, understandable and concise manner. Applies concepts of effective communication with all contacts.
Uses a problem solving approach to resolve job-related issues.
Has the ability to listen, comprehend, and respond immediately to directions.
Maintains confidentiality of all patient and hospital-related information, communications and documents.
- One to two years clinical nursing experience
Current California licensure as a Registered Nurse.
(RN) Current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support for healthcare providers.
(CT BLS) Neonatal Resuscitation Program within three (3) months hire/transfer or by completion of orientation for New Grads.
