POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT: Works collaboratively with clinical nurse specialist/advanced practice (CNS/APN) nurses and centralized nurse educator to conduct population-based education needs assessment, training, and evaluation of nursing staff. The decentralized nurse educator serves as role model for critical thinking, prioritization, and providing clinical care in area of specialty. In collaboration with nursing leadership, holds staff accountable for best practices and completing educational requirements. Serves as a preceptor to new nursing staff and participates in the development and delivery of new hire training including orientation. Collaborates with appropriate nursing leadership to develop preceptors and preceptor role. Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing Experience: Two years (4160 hours) of acute care experience as a clinical staff nurse within the last five years of hire. Licensure/ Registration/ Certification: Current license as a registered nurse by the State of Minnesota. Current CPR certification (American Heart BLS for Healthcare Providers) required. Demonstrates at the time of employment and every two years thereafter, competency in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: *Knowledge, skills, and ability to perform acute care nursing role as defined in the RN criteria based job description *Knowledge of current nursing practices and techniques *Knowledge of chemistry, math, pharmacology, anatomy and physiology of all body systems. *Knowledge of dynamics of group process *Knowledge of curriculum development and principles of adult learning and learner-centered training *Knowledge of adult and learner-centered education methodologies *Ability to apply the nursing process to patient care *Ability to identify educational needs and plan and implement appropriate education to meet those needs *Ability to perform as part of a team *Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, with peers, students and other health care personnel. *Ability to work independently and be a self-starter *Ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks and prioritize appropriately. *Ability to organize and maintain accurate electronic and paper filing systems *Ability to effectively collaborate on cross-functional work teams *Knowledge of personal computers and appropriate software. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience: Master's degree in nursing, health sciences, or education Experience in area of clinical specialty preferred.
