    Position Summary:

    The RN 2 - Stat Nurse works in conjunction with the Hospitalist and is primarily responsible for ensuring emergency nursing management of exacerbations in patient conditions throughout the hospital. Provides care to patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources within the philosophy of the institution.

    Qualifications:

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Associates Nursing or College Diploma Nursing. Must obtain Bachelors Nursing within three (3) years of hire. CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS Registered Nurse (RN) Illinois and Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). CCRN strongly encouraged. Attend and satisfactorily complete all required continuing education regarding the care of acute stroke patients. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Two (2) years critical care nursing or ED experience. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Customer satisfaction and interpersonal relationship skills. This role positively represents not only Carle but the nursing administration team, including the manager, director and CNO. Maintain 100% nursing competency and is free from discipline. (Exceptions per manager discretion related to discipline)

    Essential Functions:

  • Performs all responsibilities and duties required by unit as specific to the scope of service. Implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team.

  • Completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards and that is based on patient and family needs. Implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifies plan of care based upon continuous evaluation.

  • Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.

  • Communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. Offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers, and confers with colleagues to expand knowledge base. Identifies own learning needs and takes initiative to begin appropriate solution.

  • Fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies.

  • Effectively directs staff in an emergency situation.

  • Guides the healthcare team in collaborative practice.

  • Ensures all policy and procedures are followed.

  • Teach staff the nursing process and standards of practice. Hold staff accountable to practice standards.

  • Identifies needs, develops, conducts and evaluates programs to improve competency of nursing staff.

  • Responds to Code Speed and Code 99 calls

  • Maintains calm atmosphere in critical situations

  • Assists hospital nursing staff in caring for patients with potentially declining status – assessing and providing medical interventions at the direction of an attending physician.
